Description

Pick-up in Pocatello, ID ONLY Appraisal Information TYPE OF PIANO: Wurlitzer Baby Grand DATE OF MANUFACTURE ACCORDING TO SERIAL NUMBER: 1919 AGE OF PIANO AS OF 2008: 89 years HISTORY OF MANUFACTURER: Wurlitzer was established in 1856 by Franz Rudolph Wurlitzer in New York. He started out by importing German pianos. The first Wurlitzer piano was built in 1881 at their factory in Cincinnati, Ohio. Wurlitzer had factories in DeKalb, Illinois Tonawanda, NY and Corinth, Miss. Other names controlled by Wurlitzer have included: Apollo, Julius Bauer & Company, Melville Clark, De Kalb, Farney, Kingston, Student Butterfly, Clavichord, Kurtzmann, Merriam, Schaff Brothers, Spinette Strad and Underwood. In 1985 Wurlitzer purchased the Chickering name. In 1995, Wurlitzer & Chickering was sold to Baldwin, and manufacturing resumed at the Baldwin plants. In the late 1980s to 1996 Wurlitzer had a line of uprights and grands manufactured by Korean firm, Young Chang; also a J & C Fischer (and later Kranich & Bach) line of uprights made in China by the Beijing Piano Co. By 1996 production of Wurlitzer grands were being manufactured by Samick in Korea. In 2001, the Baldwin, Chickering and Wurlitzer names were purchased by the Gibson musical instrument company. CURRENT FAIR MARKET VALUE RANGE AS IS: $4,200 - $4,500 (U.S. Dollars) The condition of the piano's cabinet, finish and keys - as well as a piano that is in tune and in decent working order - are the most important factors that affect the final selling price in a private sale. REPLACEMENT VALUE OF SIMILAR NEW PIANO: List Price: $15,000* *Actual selling price could be up to 25% lower than list price COMMENTS: Current market value determined by averaging: current asking prices, fair market value selling prices, and depreciation schedules based on a similar new piano. This ballpark value is a starting point of consideration that could be a realistic selling price (as opposed to asking price) through a private sale. Equivalent pianos sold through a piano technician or piano dealer, that include a warranty, can reflect prices 20 to 30 percent greater than our average ballpark value. A more detailed inspection performed by a piano technician in your area may reveal aspects of the piano's condition that could increase or decrease our ballpark estimate. Market conditions in your geographic location can affect a piano's fair market value. Ornate cabinetry can also increase a piano's market value by increasing its furniture value. ----------------- Additional Information The piano can be tuned, but some notes have difficulty holding the tune. Tuner comes with piano. It has not been played much since 1990. Cabinet has some scratches, but overall nice living room piece. Piano has received major repair/replacement/upgrading of parts. The bench has been recently refinished. Serial-Number = 39983 Is-This-a-Player-Piano? = No Wood-Finish-Color = Medium Brown Wood-Finish-Polish = Satin - Shiny, but not mirror-like Cabinet-Style = Plain I reserve the right to end this auction early due to purchase from ad in local paper.
